error code 80070241

Error Code 80070241

I get Error Code 80070241 on my Dell Latitude D600. I need help

Try installing from Windows instead - also try copying the contents of the DVD to a folder on the Desktop then running the setup from there.
If that fails, use Daemon Tools (www.daemon-tools.cc) to mount the image virtually and install from there.

Has anyone actually gotten this thing installed? If so how avout posting a step by step on how you did it? The rest of us could learn from it.

You guys are not going to believe this. I finally got Vista to install, heres what happened and how I did it:
1. I pasted the download link into FIREFOX of all things. that is the only way I could get a good download.
2. Burned the ISO to DVD using Roxio DVD builder @ 2X speed.
3. Copied all the install files to the hard drive in a folder labeled "Vista Install" and ran the installation from there. It took 2 1/2 HOURS to install.
When
Vista started for the first time, all I got was a black screen, working mouse, and the build number noted in the lower right corner. NO graphics at all and nothing works. I had to roll back the installation and am now back to XP.
Talk about disapointment! Any thoughts? My machine is a 1.4 Gig celeron with a GIG of RAM

An error occurred while copying setup files onto your local machine. Error code is (80070241)

try reburning the ISO at a low speed, 2x recommended, also do a CRC check on the ISO to find out its integrity. Nero MD5 Verifier is a recommended choice. If setup still fails, its likely a bad download. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

I ad this error it was bad download I download it again and it's working
Solution: do a CRC check on the ISO to find out its integrity. Nero MD5 Verifier is a recommended choice. http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/eng/Nero_MD5_Verifier.html
Here are the MD5/CRC values for x86 or x64 depending on which every ISO you downloaded:
x86 - File Size = 3.12 GB (3,355,598,848 bytes) - CRC Value = 0x67E089E0 - MD5 Value = 0E733AB1A8E8FF9A8684FD3639332773 x64 - File Size = 4.01 GB (4,309,368,832 bytes) - CRC Value = 0x48697711 - MD5 Value = E43502D0A15EADD551119D5639859E04
Paste the MD5 Checksum for either x64 or x86 depending on which one you want check in Step 1, Step 2 - Browse to where you stored the ISO on your drive and open it and it will automatically start the varification process and generate the has in the third field, if it matches Step 1, then you are safe.

Ok, when I try to install Vista, a window comes up that says:
An error occured while copying setup files onto your local machine. Error code is [80070241].
My system specs are: HP Pavilion Slimline s7410n 1024MB DDR2 RAM 1.7GHz Intel Celeron M 224GB on the partition I'm trying to install to (250GB total space) 128MB Video RAM
Vista Upgrade Advisor said that my computer is able to run Vista.
On the sticker on front of my computer, it says: Designed for Windows XP, Windows Vista Premium Ready

I had a similar problem. I then burned a second copy and installed Vista successfully. Subsequently, I could use the first copy to install Vista on another machine.

This is the 3rd copy that I've made, though.

Just want to voice my opinion, I very upset with this Vista beta 2. Done everything that was posted yet I get the same error code 80070241, what is wrong here. Microsoft should fix this, I know that I'm not the only one. I download 6 images and used 4 different programs to burn the image no luck. I would like this fixed or an update. Spent my whole day, this is not coool microsoft!!!!!

Then it's probably time to send in a report...
Finding setup logs, reporting and attaching logs to report, figuring out what device or driver causes hangs or crash during setup:
1. google -> beta client (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=43655) The first link should be Microsoft link. It needs .NET but I think it will be installed if you try to run it without it..
2. finding and identifying the correct logs
setupapi.app.log setupapi.dev.log <<-- last 100 lines here may indicate the hanging driver
These are the primary setup logs, there are others but these are the major.
Hint: Before searching logs try Folder Options and enable viewing of hidden folders and files. Also try Run diskmgmt.msc -> assign drive letters for partitions with no drive letters.
A:
There can be multiple logs with the same name, but they are different! First look at the drive you tried to install Vista to, if it has Vista Windows\INF\ directory and the mentioned logs files.
B: early setup failure
If you can't find Windows VISTA directory (if setup did not get so far) then look all volumes/partitions in the drives that were on the machine during the install for directories starting with $. There are 2-4 of them (possibly in different partitions) depending on when the setup failed. Search for .log under all the *:\$WINDOWS
A & B:
Make sure the date and Minute timestamp of the log files are around the time when the setup failed, sometimes a setup/install failure causes the computer to automatically reboot and the setup will run again but failing in different way than the first time (making the bug report less useful). For best bug report it's better to catch the failure when it first happens. Yes it means starting the install all over again and keeping eye on it. But this will guarantee that the last line in the log will be around the time of the failure. If it is a driver crash then you can figure out the offending driver yourself just by looking at the last lines of setupapi.dev.log.
You wouldn't want to be looking at or submitting the wrong logs, right?

I found a solution or at least it worked for me, I reinstalled windows XP, put the vista cd in and did it that way. I choose new install as opposed to upgrade, only thing is there willl be a message to do an installation update, you have to accept it and of course have internet.
Droid my way was alot easier, if everybody that has this error 800.... should try it this way. less work, less frustrating. just wish it didn't take me 12 hours to figure it out!!!!!
Microsoft should still investigate into the error "droid" wrote:

For posting your solution, I thank you.
For implying that others encountering the error should disregard what I said earlier:

1. I looked for previous messages from "frustrated" here and found none. The initial post from your name only provided the error code, no mention of when exactly the error occured, no mention of an upgrade. And even for upgrades there exist scenarios where setup issues are not automatically sent back even if you clicked to allow such thing.
2. The answer was entirely about how to report the issue when it still exists in a manner that best helps to solve it - by finding and including the appropriate logs.
If beta testers immediately try everything to get around a setup issue instead of finding and providing the appropriate logs and details then there's a higher chance for a blocking issue to get through. Even if it only affect 1-2 beta testers, that could mean thousands of non-technical consumers out there who just want it to work right away without looking for workarounds. This goes especially for upgrade issues since the upgrades are done more often by non-technical people.
Of course *after* you have found the logs and reported the issue, you are free to try anything to get it installed and posting your solution here.

i agree microsoft must respond

this has nothing to do with the DVD ISO.. Windows Vista does not install on my computer (which is a DFI NF4 motherboard /w Opeteron 175) and runs into the 80070241 error. The MD5 sum matches up on the ISO.
The
same dvd works just fine on other computers (works fine on my son's P4 box). I even moved his dvd rom drive back to my box and the same issue still occurs (hence it's not a dvd rom, or a dvd-disc problem).
It must be some sort of beta software / driver problem. Alot of people running into this problem seems to be using NF4 AMD boards.

I have encountered the error many times. I installed Vista and used it for over a week. Reformatted the hard drive after Vista refused to load and have not been able to install it again. Asus P5V800MX, tried two different hard drives, one downloaded ISO and 4 DVD's puechased from MS. Still running on an Asus P5P800.

I have the same problem. I used the >original final< Vista Upgrade DVD - no Beta, no Download etc.). First the install stopped after 1%. I Use a Athlon Board with SATA Chipset. After I added the newest SATA Driver from Via, the installation continues until 5% the it stopped with the same error message. Here is the interesting Part of the logfile....

As I understand, the problem is that Setup could not copy the Install.wim. The file is on the DVD and I can copy it to everywhere and it seems to be ok. So I believe that there is a major bug in VIA´s Chipset driver that stopps the simple file copy to the temporary folder. Do you also have the AMD CPU & Via SATA device?

No for Vista you have to install both the SATA drivers not the base only. Ko.

It worked fine with the 64 bit disc. But the disc you sent me for the 32 dosen't even say 32. It says x86. Did you send me a disc for a foreign country? I was trying to download the 32 bit on to a virgin hard drive of 80gig. The system has plenty of power and memory to handle the install.

If it doesn't say 64 anywhere then it should be the 32bit.
